Maine Law SBA Presents: The "Back Story" Lunchtime Series with Professor Burke
Monday, April 9th at 12:10pm in the Middle Classroom

Professor Burke teaches in the Cumberland Legal Aid Clinic in both the General Practice Clinic and the Prisoner Assistance Clinic. Before joining the faculty full-time, Professor Burke was a lawyer in Lewiston from 1976 to 2005, with a practice covering nearly every area of law: Civil, Criminal and Constitutional cases in both State and Federal Courts and a general practice including real estate, family law, wills, probate, corporations (both for and not-for profit), and Federal ERISA and RICO cases. He has represented lawyers, therapists and real estate agents before professional licensing boards, and he advised artists and musicians on various artistic and intellectual property legal issues. He was a Complaint Justice and a Referee for the Eighth District Court, and a mediator and arbitrator for Superior, District and Probate Courts, as well as for private parties.


Eviction Procedures - Gregg Frame
Monday, April 9th at 5:00 pm in Room 118
Portland attorney Gregg Frame will be addressing the Affordable Housing Group Study on Monday evening (April 9th) at 5 PM in Room 118. He will be provide an overview of the eviction process, summarize relevant Maine law on point, and will try to make eviction law as entertaining as humanly possible. All are welcome to attend.

Expanding the Midwife's Role in Reproductive Health Care

Wednesday, April 11th, 12:10pm-1:10pm, Middle Classroom
The Maine Law Students for Reproductive Justice is excited to host Nancy Foss, a consultant to the New Abortion Provider Training Initiative, a project in Cambridge, MA, and trainer for the Gynecological Teaching Associates program at Maine Medical Center.  Nancy Foss will be at the Law School to discuss the legal, social, and policy effects of expanding a midwife's role in reproductive healthcare, including abortion care. Lunch from Kamasouptra will be served; open to the public.

Maine Association for Construction and Real Estate Law ("MACREL") Meeting 
Thursday, April 12th at 12:10pm in the Berman Lounge 
MACREL will be having a meeting to elect new officers for next year, discuss past/future events (including upcoming MEREDA events), and generally chat about how cool construction and real estate law is. Members who intend to run for an officer position (CEO, CFO, or COO) should check out the Facebook page for a description of offices/duties, and be prepared to solicit votes. Lunch will be served.

Maine Trial Lawyers' Ass'n Elections
Thursday, April 12th at 12:10pm in the Berman Lounge
Vote or run for an officer position. Currently the candidates are: President, Laura Shortill; Executive Director, Joseph Mendez and Katie Hollstrom; Secretary, Tammie Snow; Treasurer, James Wade. Also on the agenda, planning a court visit.

The LGBT Caucus will be hosting State Sen. Phil Bartlett (D-Gorham) to speak to us about his experiences as an openly LGBT attorney and member of the Maine State Senate. All are welcome to attend and lunch will be served.

A guest lecturer will be speaking about the controversial subject of being able to delete yourself from the world. It is about becoming totally off the grid, including debts and former records of any kind. It could have major consequences for banks, credit ratings, and insurance companies, etc.
