Starting on Monday, October 1, the SBA is posting daily questions on its Facebookpage relating to topics including Maine Law history and student life. LGBT CaucusWednesday, October 10th at 12:10pm in Room 117The LGBT Caucus will hold its fourth meeting of the semester in Room 117 on Wednesday the 10th of October at 12:10 PM. All are welcome to participate in the planning of the upcoming debate!
International Law Society Meeting

We will be discussing plans for the upcoming International Law Weekend and speaking events.
Maine Association for Public Interest Law (MAPIL) October Planning Meeting
Wednesday, October 10th 12:10pm in Room 118
Please join MAPIL for a very important fall planning session to discuss upcoming events, including the Halloween fundraiser, panel presentations, and 25th Annual Auction.  We will also be holding elections for the following positions: Co-Chair of MAPIL and Auction Coordinator.  Anyone interested in taking a leadership position in one of the Maine Law's most prominent student-run organizations is encouraged to attend.  If you have questions about what the positions entail, or how to get involved with MAPIL, please contact Amy at amy.olfene@maine.edu.  Meeting attendees should plan to bring a bagged lunch.

Fair Trade Coffee Sale
Thursday, Oct. 11th from 7:30am - 12:30pm in the Main Lobby
Maine Law Students for Reproductive Justice will having the first our fair-trade coffee sales the morning of October 11th. We will be selling coffee and baked goodies from 7:30am - 11:30am.  $1.50 gets you a coffee and a baked good of your choice!

ABA Law Student Division Fall Leadership Summit

LGBT Caucus Debate - Question Submission Deadline
Thursday, Oct. 18th at 7:00pm in Talbot Lecture Hall (map)
The University of Maine School of Law’s LGBT Law Caucus will be organizing a debate entitled: “Should Mainers Accept Same-Sex Marriage? A debate on the merits of Question One.” The event will be held on Thursday, Oct. 18 from 7:00 pm until 8:30 pm in the Talbot Lecture Hall located in the Luther Bonney Building on the USM Portland Campus. We have scheduled Mary Bonauto, a very successful LGBT rights lawyer for GLAD to argue for the merits of same-sex marriage while Carroll Conley from the Christian Civic League will be arguing against.
We are asking for questions from the law school to submit to the speakers during the event. Questions can be submitted from individual students, faculty, staff, or on behalf student organizations to one or both speakers. Please submit your questions by responding to either victoria.rodriguez@maine.edu oradam.m.anderson@maine.eduThe deadline to submit questions is Monday, Oct. 7 (this has been extended).

MAML & Allagash Brewery Tour
Saturday, Oct. 20th at 5:00pm at Allagash Brewery Join the Multicultural Association at Maine Law as we go on an Allagash Brewery Tour on Saturday, October 20 at 5:00pm. Students must be 21 and prepared to present their IDs the day of the tour. You may reserve tickets by emailing maml@maine.edu or by visiting our Facebook event.

Zodie’s 2nd Annual Charity Halloween Party
Friday, October 26th at the Portland Club
Shira Panelli, University of Maine School of Law Class of 2011, started a non-profit unincorporated organization called Cops with Cakes during her externship with the Neighborhood Prosecutor’s Office. Cops with Cakes gives birthday parties to children at homeless shelters in Portland. They also have a Portland Police Officer attend the party and give the birthday child presents and a cake as if the party supplies came from the police department. Please go to Cops with Cakes Facebook page to learn more about the organization.
Zodie’s 2ndAnnual Charity Halloween Party has picked Cops with Cakes as the beneficiary of their annual halloween party. Tickets are $25 each and all proceeds will be donated to Cops with Cakes. Tickets can be bought here. Also visit our Facebook event page!

Real World Transition: Law Student to Lawyer with Heather Sanborn
Thursday, November 1st at 12:10pm in the Middle Classroom
Heather Sanborn, '07, is the attorney and co-owner of Rising Tide Brewery here in Portland.
Heather received a B.A. summa cum laude from Middlebury College as well as a M.S.Ed. with highest honors from the University of Southern Maine. While in law school, she had two case notes published in the Maine Law Review and eventually served as its Editor–in–Chief.
