Upcoming Student Group Events at Maine Law

M.A.P.I.L. HALLOWEEN CANDY SALE
All Week in the Lobby
It is time for our annual Halloween candy sale! We will be taking candy orders and delivering them in mailboxes in time for Halloween. You can deliver to other students as well as faculty and staff. The first bag costs $2 and each additional bag is $1. During lunch we will also be selling candy bars for your immediate enjoyment. Please look for MAPIL representatives in the lobby during lunch and throughout the day.


National Lawyer's Guild Meeting
Monday, October 17, 2011 at 12:00 p.m. in the 3rd Floor of the Annex
Would you like to have an impact on high-school students? Volunteer with the National Lawyers Guild: Maine Law Chapter for the ACLU of Maine Fall Student Conferences. It will be held on October 20, 2011 between 8:30AM to 2:30pm at the USM Portland Campus.

We will be teaching “street law” workshops to a group of 25-30 students. You can sign up for the following shifts (an extra 15 minutes have been added to the shifts for appropriate preparation time):

9:00am-10: 40am
10:15am-10: 50am
11:50am-1: 30pm

Lunch will be provided for all participants.

For more information or you’re interested in volunteering, please email Diana DeJesus at diana.dejesus@maine.edu. A brief informational will be held on the 3rd Floor of the Annex Monday October 17th at 12:00pm to go over the lesson plans and address any questions you may have.


Maine Law Students for Reproductive Justice Meeting
Tuesday, October 18th at Noon in Room 118
We'll be meeting at 12:10 in Room 118 to discuss upcoming events and fundraising. Brownies will be served.
New members are encouraged to come find out more information about MLSRJ and reproductive rights in New England, the US and abroad!!

The Academic Support TAs will be presenting a session on outlining styles and techniques to help you with the first step of exam preparation and review. Please join us on Wednesday, October 19th during the lunch hour. Lunch will be served! Location: 1L Room


Maine Law Veteran Student Organization Meeting
Wednesday, October 19 at 12:15 in Room 118
The Maine Law Veteran Student Organization is having a meeting on Wednesday (Oct 19th) at 12:15 in Room 118. All students are welcome, even if they missed the first meeting.  We will be planning our upcoming Veterans Day 2011 event, designing a t-shirt, and discussing fundraising.


WLA Start Smart Salary Negotiation Workshop

Please join us for Start Smart, a special salary negotiation workshop for women conducted by the WAGE Project. Space is limited. Initial $20 Workshop Fee is being WAIVED so SPACE IS LIMITED. ABA/SBA Family Fun Day at Timber Top Farm
Sunday, October 23, 2011, 1:00-4:00 p.m.
191 Lower Egypt Road, Bar Mills, Maine
There will be food (hot dogs, chips, cookies, drinks, fruit, etc.) as well as games and activities for the children, including bobbing for apples and pumpkin coloring. There will also be a Halloween costume parade, with prizes for the most creative and scariest costumes. This event is open to all Maine Law students (even if you don't have kids!!!) as well as law students from all 1st Circuit ABA law schools. Health Law Association Care Package Drive
Just a reminder, the Health Law Association is still collecting items for the troops! Thank you to everyone who has donated already! We'll be mailing our first care package this week and hope its just the first of many!

Please speak with Kasey Ciolfi, Kristen Murray-James or Christie Herman about any questions regarding the care package drive or to donate money that will be used to buy items not donated.


International Law Society Speaker
Tuesday, October 25, at Noon in the Moot Court Room
The International Law Society at the University of Maine School of Law and Tilson Technology Management are pleased to welcome Patrick Malcor to speak at its Fall 2011 lunch lecture series on Tuesday, October 25th at noon. Mr. Malcor will lecture in the Moot Court Room at the School of Law.

Patrick Malcor is the CEO of Theodor Wille Intertrade (TWI), a leading provider of supply chain management services to the U.S. Government and other international organizations in some of the most challenging environments in the world.  Mr. Malcor will lecture on his experience in international business and law with both corporate and institutional actors, providing a broad survey of the practical aspects of international legal practice as a business leader.
