HAPPY BIRTHDAY AFFORDABLE CARE ACT!!!
Wednesday, March 28th 11:00am to 1:00pm in the Lobby
Last Friday, March 23rd marked the second anniversary of President Obama’s Health Care Reform. Celebrate the ACA with HLA and birthday cupcakes! Find us in the lobby on Wednesday, March 28th from 11am-1pm.  Also starting Monday, March 25th, the Supreme Court will begin a three day hearing on arguments over the act:
  • Monday's argument: whether court action is premature since the individual mandate will not go into effect until 2014
  • Tuesday's argument: whether Congress overstepped its authority by requiring Americans to purchase health insurance or pay a penalty
  • Wednesday's arguments: whether the rest of the law can take effect even if the health insurance mandate is unconstitutional and whether the law usurps states’ rights by coercing them to expand the federal-state Medicaid program for low-income people by threatening to cut off federal aid to states that don't comply
For even more information on the ACA, check out Professor Wriggins's latest article "Is the Health Insurance Individual Mandate 'Unprecedented?': The Case of Auto Insurance Mandates,” available online at http://papers.ssrn.com/sol3/papers.cfm?abstract_id=2011025.
