Upcoming Student Group Events at Maine Law for the Week of February 13th

National Lawyers Guild: Maine Law Chapter
Monday, Feb 13th at 12:05 pm in the Middle Classroom
Please join the members of the National Lawyers Guild for its first meeting of the semester. We plan on discussing upcoming events forthe semester such as a movie series with ACLU of Maine, possible speakers for Sunshine Week 2012, and voter registration drives. Lunch will be served.
MSBA and NLD
Wednesday, Feb 15th at 12:00 pm in the Middle Classroom
The Maine State Bar Association (MSBA) and the New Lawyers Division (NLD) will discuss the benefits of being a member of the MSBA, any upcoming events, and the future initiatives of the Association. Student membership is FREE!

African-American History Month at USM
Wednesday, Feb 15th at 5:00 pm at the Wishcamper Center
Please join the Multicultural Association at Maine Law (MAML) as we support the Office of Multicultural Affairs at USM for its annual African-American History Month concert. It will on February 15, 2012 at the Wishcamper Center in Portland. A reception with light refreshments at 5 pm will be followed by the performances by the African-America jazz and blue singer, Lorraine Bohland, accompanied by pianist Terry Foster, at 6 pm. The event is free and open to the public.

Gary Goldberg, partner at Garmey & Associates, discusses how to give an effective opening and how to negotiate a favorable settlement for your client. Gary has tried cases for both defense and plaintiffs' bar, teaches a certified CLE course on Trial Skills, and provides mediation services all around the state of Maine.

The 25th Annual Robert M. Cover Retreat

Honorable Unity Dow of Botswana - Justice for Women Lecture
Tuesday, March 27, 2012, at 7:00 pm at the Abromson Center at 88 Bedford Street.
Unity Dow is an international human rights advocate, a former judge, and a novelist. The Law School recently established the Justice for Women Lecture Series to bring a distinguished speaker to Maine annually to contribute to a global conversation about justice for women and girls. If you plan to attend the evening lecture on March 27th, please RSVP to Lexie Moras at 780-4344 or amoras@usm.maine.edu.
In addition to the March 27th evening lecture, Judge Dow has generously offered to spend time in the Law School, most likely on Monday, March 26th, to talk with law students and will participate in other events in the Portland area during a three-day visit. Stay tuned for more information about these other events.
Rep. Chellie Pingree by ELS and HLA
Tuesday, April 3rd at 12:15 pm in the Moot Court Room
The Environmental Law Society and the Health Law Association are hosting Rep. Chellie Pingree on April 3 in the Moot Court Room at lunch time (12:15-1:10). She will be speaking about food policy and the linkages between food choices, environmental health and human health. We hope to provide lunch from Local Sprouts.
USM Intervarsity
The first gathering of USM Graduate Student Fellowship (on FB) happened last Thursday and we had 11 in attendance! Several want to continue to meet for fellowship and Bible Study. If you are interested in joining the group, FB me or email me. I, Allison VanderLinden, the chaplain to USM Graduate Students will be on campus again Feb 16th.  Connect with me at the Interfaith house or by my cell:  207-449-9672.
