MLSRJ Film Series: "Very Young Girls"
Thursday, Feb 23rd at 7:00pm in the Middle Classroom
The MLSRJ’s film series focuses on the rights of women and girls here in the U.S. and abroad. Each film or documentary highlights pressing issues facing women and girls, and efforts to obtain access to reproductive healthcare and freedom from sexual exploitation.
This week we will be featuring "Very Young Girls," an exposé of the commercial sexual exploitation of girls in New York City as they are sold on the streets by pimps and treated as adult criminals by police. The film identifies hope for these girls in the organization GEMS (Girls Educational and Mentoring Services), a recovery agency founded and run by Rachel Lloyd, herself a survivor of commercial sexual exploitation. GEMS is committed to ending commercial sexual exploitation and domestic trafficking of children by changing individual lives, transforming public perception, and revolutionizing the systems and policies that impact commercially sexually exploited youth.
MLSRJ Book Club
MLSRJ is starting a Book Club event for Before Roe v. Wade. We will also read the EEE. If you're interesting in joining us (so we know how many books we need), please contact Amy Olfene or Jackie Moss. We recommend this article by the authors for more information. Hope you can join us!
